I've been trying to work on my portfolio all day long, but the strides I've made have been small. Life's been kinda strange lately. I think it's just the change between the seasons. It was really lovely today, and the outside air smelled like Spring and it was great. But then it had to remind me that it was still winter, so it got cold again. Yesterday was the last day of work for one of our designers so we saw a movie and had a drink in the east village. After that, I met up with my roommate Jeremy and his friend who's visiting from Ohio, at this bar called four faced liars. It was a little "fratty", but whatev. We were out kinda late, so maybe that's why I'm a little off today. Ok, well LA fashion week just ended so enjoy the pic - Alvin Valley.

Have a fun Sat. night blog
Kate
xoxo

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_RRLt5jMmgxA/RfQhCf_A_cI/AAAAAAAAAAk/J3VVJ-Za7wo/s320/23m.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5040690209763687874" />
Dear Blog,

Yes, it has been well over a month since my last entry. Whatever....deal with it. So I have been busy with work and friends and whatnot. I've been up to some fun things. My friend Jen came to visit a few weeks ago, I went to see Chorus Line which was super cool, and have done some other fun stuff here and there which I can't remember. Yesterday my friend Martin was in town so we met for lunch in chinatown and then shopped SoHo all afternoon. My friend Sam came along- she's a great shopping buddy. Martin left around 6, so we went back to Astoria and saw the Zodiac. It wasn't "boo", ghost scary, but it was scary enough for me to sleep with the tv on last night. Ok, so I'm a big dork. After that, our roomate Jeremy brought Borat home. It was funnier than I expected, which was good cause I was preparing myself for a disappointment. By the time we finished that it was 3 in the morning(well 2 in the morning but we all had to turn our damn clocks forward). Awesome. Today's beautiful outside so maybe I'll wander around outside and find a park. Ok, well tomorrow's another week.......yay. I really liked the picture, so I thought I'd post it. Just some cool French girl walking the street's of Paris.

Kate
xoxo

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_RRLt5jMmgxA/RcZuXflRUCI/AAAAAAAAAAY/vfAhUqxcTI4/s320/09m.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5027827383899607074" />
Dear Blog,

So fashion week, Fall 07, is in full swing, and I gotta say that I feel uninspired thus far. If you want to check out all the shows, go to style.com - they have all the pics from every show, and then fun little stuff like the picture above. I couldn't find any looks that I loved, but I did think this illustration was pretty cool. Not much else new here - it is bitterly cold and bringing me down. I think it's keeping everyone inside, as Target was even empty this morning. Never in my whole 1 and a half years in NYC have I been to a Target when there's not a line wrapped around the entire store. Ok, well another week - can't wait.....sorry for the negativity blog.

Love,
Kate
xoxo

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_RRLt5jMmgxA/Rb6NER5rdKI/AAAAAAAAAAM/pG_psuKcSq8/s320/newyears.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5025609338856371362" />
Dear Blog,

I have no excuse for not visiting you this year. Just call me lazy and get it over with. Now with January nearly over, I look back on the last month with a smile - this years off to a good steadt start so far. It's going to be a challenging one, but if you don't learn from life, what's the point really anyways. I got back to NYC in time for a cozy New Year's Eve on the couch with Paul. Our Jewish friend Jon was in town, so he stopped by for burritos and we gave him a hard time about law school. Since we all live for the weekends here, most of my fun is had on Saturday and Sunday. I've been to the MET to see the Nan Kempner wardrobe exhibit, checked out several new restaurants including my favorite Thai place "35". One of my new years resolutions, the only one I have been able to keep so far, is the one in which I spend more time with my friends and the people I love. Yesterday Phil, Leena, Paul and I rented a car and drove to the mecca of outlet shopping, Woodbury Commons. We all did pretty well, especially Leena and I who filled the back of that little "Cobalt" up with way too many bags. I have a couple of things coming up to look forward to such as "Chorus Line" tix in February. Ok, this is the only musical I really love.....well, except for "Hello Dolly", but I swear, that's it. I am meeting some family in Savannah, the weekend after Easter so that should be fun. And there's always Allison and Aaron's wedding in May. Someone told me that last Monday was the "bluest" day of the year - I guess part of it has to do with the winter weather being crap in January; the fact that we have a long time before another Holiday; and lastly, most of our resolutions lose speed around this time. Get back up on that horse people....it's 2007!

Love,
Kate
xoxo

Dear Blog,

Merry belated Christmas Blog. As I probably mentioned, I am in Colorado for the week. We are in the midst of our 2nd blizzard in a week, so that's fun. Luckily Mom netflix'd before I got home so we have plenty of Grey's Anatomy to watch. I made it here in one piece and on-time, which was in itself, a Christmas miracle. My bags arrived a day later but I can't really complain too much about that. The girl I called in India told me they would be here the next day and sure enough, she was right. We spent Christmas Eve lounging around and then went to midnight mass (at 6 pm) and then to dinner at the Welshire Inn which is kind of our regular Christmas Eve dinner hang out. The next day we opened presents and then had some friends over for dinner. I got many nice things, but I won't mention them all because it's tacky, but amongst my favorites were the Hermes parfume from Paul and pottery from Mom and Dad. I am running out of places to store it so I think I'm going to let Paul hang on to some of it for me, since he loves it so much. Other than that, we have been trying to get out of the house in between snow showers - to the malls of course to catch the sales. Last night my fathers friend Bjorn invited us over for a Swedish Christmas dinner - bring on those lil' meatballs!! Ok, well I only have a few more days left of doing nothing at all productive so I better get on to it. See you in 07' blog!!!!

Love,
Kate
xoxo

Dear Blog,

So I'll say it - I'm eating my words about this one blog. I had a fantastic time at the holiday party. It was 1/4 a cooking lesson, 1/4 team building exercise and 1/4 a whole lot of red wine and 1/4 of co-workers having too much fun together. But no really, it was very much a good time. It was at this place in Tribeca called "Cooking By the Book" and I definitely want to take everyone there. We made filets and they were amazing, but that's only because I was on team filet, so of course they were delicious. We had 4 teams, and each group had a dish to make. After the whole hour of cooking that we did, we all sat down and ate and then exchanged secret Santa gifts. I still don't know who drew my name, but I wish I did so that I could thank them. After that, finished off the late afternoon, early evening at Edwards cafe down the street. I work with good people.

Last night the holiday office party fun continued with Ian and the Nice Ltd. crowd. You know me, I always get tired on Friday, so I wasn't a ring a ding kid or anything, but it was fun and good to see my buddy Ian. This morning I have hair cut and then I'm knocking out the rest of the Christmas shopping. I really don't know where the last 5 months have gone. It was July one day, and then the next it was Halloween, and then the day after that, was today , and almost the end of the year. I have tried to make the most of the last few weeks of 2006. I feel like I have been very social lately, as it is the Holidays. Last weekend I was out on both Friday AND Saturday - ok so, I get really tired and floppy-feeling come Friday, so it takes a good dinner and a bottle of wine to pull me out of it. I had dinner with my boys Paul and Ian at Knife and Fork - it was an experience - nice ambiance, and an interesting menu -I give it 3 stars. Next we met Paul's friend Lindy and her birthday crowd at People - they had good music. Saturday, we were dragging a bit so it was breakfast at cup and a nap until 6, when Sam was picking me up to go to The Nutcracker. I had never been to a ballet before, and it was amazing - those people sure can move around. They even danced while it snowed little plastic snowflakes, which we surely thought was most dangerous. After, we went to Aspen and Gstaad - 2 bars that boast an uppity, hoity-toity, apres ski lodge feel. I called it an early night, because I had to Christmas shop on Sunday. Paul and I made it down to the lower east side in search of not-lame presents for everyone. Paul was very patient while I browsed. It is Monday night again and a week of work stands before me. The White + Warren Holiday shindig is on Thursday - we're getting crazy from 1-4 on Thursday afternoon, while making our own food and exchanging secret Santa gifts - yipeeee - well not really, but I'm trying to not be mad about it. Time for bed - I feel tired all over.

Love,
Kate
xoxo

Dear Blog,

In my desperate attempt to find new music, I stumbled upon Kings of Convenience. If you like Belle and Sebastian then you will like these guys. I was looking for something mellow that I could listen to at work and still focus and this fits the bill - it's just good sounds all around. The all time best sample sale of the year starts tomorrow at W+W and continues on for 3 days of sheer madness and crazy women. I horded my stash pretty early on, found gifts and so on - I need more cashmere like I need a hole in the head but whatever, it's practically free - and it gets cold here. Work is getting pretty crazy and I am feeling like if we want to expand this PL business, I'm going to definitely need a partner in crime. I wake up in the middle of the night with fears of emails I forgot to send or photo samples I need to get out - no way to spend the off hours away from work. Hopefully this will die down soon as this is the busiest time in the year for us in fashion. I am in dire need of sunshine and pretty things, hence the pic - Lily's on Nantucket.

Good night blog,
Kate
xoxo

Dear Blog,

Now that there is only 6 weeks til' Christmas - that's right, only 6 weeks for real, I get anthropologie store email updates about gifting every other day, and of course, like the girl that I am, I go every other day. I found something really cute, and I thought I'd tell you about it blog because it is the cutest damn thing I have seen all day. I am in major lack of cute lately in my life. Why does this time of year always leave me feeling restless and full of questions with no answer in sight - "what am I doing? who am I?, where I am going?, and on and on and on". I don't know if its just a change in the seasons or what but it is a major pain in the ass. Why can't I just be content with my job and whatever else I've got going on - NO - I question. I think it would help to get out of the city for a few days and that's exactly what I'm doing next week for Thanksgiving. I'm heading west to Chicago to visit some family out in the country, the polar opposite of my life here in NY. I'm excited - maybe my Dad will let me take his old corvette out for a spin. Saturday was Paul's birthday and we had a grand old time - Paul's work bought him a new camera cause' his old one got swiped right off his desk, so that was exciting(getting a new camera, not getting the old one stolen) and then we headed back to Brooklyn to open presents. Let's just say Paul is no longer at a lost for things to hang the wall. We had a dinner at a little Italian place in the east village and then met up with friends at Hanger Bar, which suprisingly enough, was cool enough of a hang out to keep us there all night - or at least until 3 when us old people head on home. Sunday was a day of recovery, naps and greasy food, and then comes Monday - always Monday. Let's just hope this week goes smoothly and there's no communication breakdown. Oh, by the way that's an ipod hoodie - run on down to anthropologie and go get yourself one.

Night blog,
Kate
xoxo

Dear Blog,

Well we lost a member of our family last Sunday. Suzy, our schnauzer left us after away 11 good years. Luckily, for her sake and ours, she was only sick for a day or two and un until last Thursday, she was her normal self - even barking at the trick-or-treaters on Halloween. I wish I could have been there to say goodbye but I don't know if I could have taken it - I'm not very good at dealing with these things. She will be sorely missed by everyone, including her best buddy Rocket, with whom she did everything. I kept waiting for an Indian summer than never showed. Oh well, at least I have plenty of cashmere. Yesterday was a good Friday. First of all, it was the last day of the week, which automatically makes it the best day, and on top of that, I had a couple of good meetings and it was an overall productive work day - always helps when you can get out of the office for a while. Paul and I had dinner at some Italian place and then met our friend Samantha for "Marie Antoinette" out here in Queens. I think we, and by we I mean the whole theatre, left with mixed reviews. It was a beautiful movie, no doubt, but there were some slow parts, and a somewhat broken plot-line. I love Sophia Coppola so I can't say very much bad about it. When we were walking home last night, it got so cold, it seemed it could snow. Today I had my hair cut at Bumble and Bumble, and then perused H&M and Bloomingdales - I saw Stacey from TLC's "What Not to Wear" - you know how I love celebrities.
Off to a birthday party tonight and who knows what tomorrow. It's time to do a little decorating for Halloween I think.

Let them eat cake
Love,
Kate
xoxo

Dear Blog,

So it goes, another Monday come and gone. Tonight the fresh direct man came to our house and brought me groceries - now I can finally make dinner like a normal person instead of eating cereal every night. Last weekend I took it easy because I'm still getting over some cold/flu stuff. Saturday Paul and I met the newlyweds Phil and Leena Anderson in SoHo for lunch at this place called the "antique garage" - it was very good and very Turkish. And there was a cute boy jazz trio. After lunch, Leena and I skipped out to see what was left over at the Calypso Sample Sale and picked up some $30 jeans which were originally $195. Now come on, who would ever pay that much money for jeans - like whatever. After that we found the boys at a bar, as usual and then I went home for some rest and roomate time. The next day Paul and I went to the "olive garden" - that's right, we had a gift card, and then to home depot to find Paul some curtains. I guess the neighbors were starting to get a wee bit too curious. That night we went to see "the departed" - now if you are in dire need of some foul language, lots of blood and violence, South Phily and alec baldwin, then this is the movie for you. I give it 4 stars. Once again, please enjoy my look of the day.

Good night blog,
love,
kate
xoxo

Dear Blog,

Sniffles, cough, sore throat, aches and pains - you name it, I've got it. The Flu that is, or well, something that feels like the flu. I got a Z-pak and I should be ok by Monday, but it's been a rough week at best. Today I had a very early doc's appt in the city and then came home to the screaming children at the elementary school 3 feet from my bedroom window. The most pleasant thing today would be when I met our mailman. He's a lovely guy, very friendly and even told me to feel better - it reminded me of the Sesame Street song "These are the people in your neighborhood". Anymore we don't even know our own neighbors, so it gave me a calm, sentimental feeling - almost like Iiving in a small town. I'm kind of bored - read all the magazines and slept a lot. I would rather be at work b/c when I'm home I just feel guilty - and not that good "guilty" feeling like skipping school - that bad "guilty" feeling that makes you think "shit, I'm going to have a lot to do come Mon.". Tomorrow if I feel ok I might go to the Domino bazaar - this market place thing that Domino magazine is having somewhere in the city. Sandra's working the event and got me a staff pass so I might go for a while - scope things out. I don't have any new or interesting pics, so the most I can offer is my "look of the week" - a pic from Marni Spring 07' runway.

Good night blog,
love,
kate
xoxo

Dear Blog,

Well, a lot has happened in the last month or so since my last blog. By now I hope that you've come to terms with the fact that I'm just not a good blogger and never will be. I guess I'll start with work. I got a promotion and raise, which is always nice and now I'm officially the Private Label designer for our company White + Warren. Works kept me busy, but it's nice to have more responsisbility, and thus, more of an opinion. Fashion week ended with the Chado Ralph Rucci couture and ready-to-wear show and guess who was in attendance....ME. Sandra had xtra tickets so Sam, Chip and I sat 3rd row and chatted with all the celebrities.....well, really we only talked to each other b/c no one would give us the time of day but it was fun anyways. Our friends Chief Martin and Steve Balls came for a visit. We did it up right in the city, in Brooklyn and even in Queens. I love those boys but I think they wore us all out. My ipod finally gave up - super little guys works so hard, so the next day I had to buy a new one. I just really can't live without the pod - maybe anywhere else, but definitely not here in this city. It's black and super-sleek and I love it, love it, love it. Now I can listen to music AND browse pics of my cat Rocket, or Paul whenever I want - sorry Paul, but you know I love that cat. Speaking of Paul, we moved him into his very own apt. last weekend, which was exciting. He's finally has room for all of his computers. It's officially Fall, no.....wait......it's winter already. It was SOOOOO cold last night. So much for autumn. Other than that, it's been kind of like whatever. Today, on a cold Saturday, I think I'll hit the met.....after watching ET on MTV and The SOUP, I'm in dire need of some culture.

Stay warm blog,
love,
Kate

Dear Blog,

So this weekend sure did come and go quickly. Friday night was low-key. Paul and I went to dinner in Grand Central (they actually have some pretty good restaurants) and then just kicked-it. Yesterday was also slow - cleaned house and made some sewing repairs - I have have been getting complaints that the hole in my robe was getting a little out of control so something had to be done. We had dinner at Locale, a cute Italian place up the street in Queens and then walked over to Sam and Brina's - they have this dog omelet who's just the cutest ever. Today I went to Williamsburg and scoured some vintage stores with a couple of the girls from work. Here's the thing - I always have the hardest time finding anything worth while anymore in these places. I just find myself rooting through a rack of 70's polyester double-knit with a bunch of other hopefuls desperate to stumble upon a fashion treasure, until I realize that the place had been picked of all the good stuff years ago when Williamsburg became the popular place to be, or be seen at least - whatever, I'm over it. I did come upon some great "new stores". There are some great, and yes, very tiny little shops that have a well-sorted selection of covetable jewelry, clothing by new labels such as Vena Cava, and various housewares, furniture, and eccentric odds and ends. I gotta say that when it comes to vintage or antique scavenging, I can get down and dirty with the best of em', but really kids, don't we all have enough old tee-shirts and beat-to-hell leather bags. Embrace the new!!!
Oh, and enjoy the emo/hipster pic - they're harder to find than you'd think.

Love,
Kate
xoxo

Dear Blog,

So the first day back from a 4-day weekend is always the hardest. Plus, I have like 2 new people to orientate and I am having vivid flashbacks to my long lost days as a high school link leader. On Friday Paul and I flew to Sandusky Ohio for Phil and Leena's Indian/Presbyterian wedding - pretty crazy if you ask me, but beautiful nonetheless. Leena was beautiful and Phil is just the best guy in the world and Leena is very lucky to have him. It was a 3-day extravaganza. On Friday there was a BBQ at Leena's parents house and then that the night, the Sangheet(probably didn't spell that right) with Indian food and then, of all things, karaoke. Saturday morning was the Mendhi party with all the girls and then Leena's family (the aunties) adorned her with golden bangles(a giving away of the bride to the grooms family). I got my Mendhi on, a small motif on my left palm. That evening was the rehearsal and then the rehearsal dinner which was larger than some weddings I've been to. They played this really cut "so you want to be married" trivia game and it was hilarious - Phil's parents are great. The next day was the wedding, and Phil even came in on white horse. The reception was wonderful and the party seemed to go on well into the morning, even after everyone made it back to the hotel. I flew back last night and was pretty exhausting. I am a little jealous of Phil and Leena b/c they were flying to Neece(probably didn't spell that right either) - but after all, it is they're honeymoon. Ok, well wish me luck blog - I could use all the luck you've got to get me through this week.

Love,
Kate
xoxo

Dear Blog,

So this week has come and gone fairly quickly. It's always the weeks those whatever kind of weeks that huge things happen and enormous changes are made. All I can say is that I will dearly miss Mandie, my co-worker and our research and development right hand lady. I don't know how we will do it without her. On to bigger and better things. Paul and I are getting ready to head to Sandusky for Phil and Leena's 3 -day wedding extravaganza. I just got an e-vite to a Mendi party and I'm really escited - even though it won't go with my dress - whatever, who cares. Oh, by the way I got the cutest dress from Theory - so neat and different and I just had to get it b/c once you've got something stuck in your head, it's all over and you can pretty much gaurantee you'll never find something you like as much as that 1st dress. Also, I'm gonna give you all a little advise - never go to Macy's to buy shoes. Even if you really need then have a gift card and whatever.....just don't, it's bad news. I'm a little freaked out to fly with all the drama recently, but I guess this is the future of travel so we've got to go with it. So this blogs been about a million little things, so I better wrap it up cause I'm rambling. One last thing.....as I write this I'm listening to this cd that one of my best highschool friends made for me before I left for college. I found it last weekend behind some random other cd. Got to say, this is good stuff - alittle Green Day and a little Dave. LIsten to your old stuff now and again - it's still good.

Oh and the pic is of my friend Katie and I after our birthday dinner last Sunday! Happy birthday to us......very very belated.

Love,
Kate
xoxo

Dear Blog,

So it has been a busy summer and it seems like forever since we talked last. In the past month, I have gone on vacation to Nantucket for a month, seen a couple of concerts, namely The Format at Irving Plaza and The Shins at McCarren Park Pool in Brooklyn, enjoyed the summer with friends and have been extra super busy at work (busy, but its been pleasant and tolerable). The last couple of weeks we have been in fall 07 mode at work and have just finished sending out all specs for our first fall delivery. This season we're definitely feeling textures, subtle embroidery and exaggerated silhouettes - just an FYI for any of you who care. Vacation was lovely. Nantucket is the most beautiful place and anyone who hasn't been should go - NOW...before the summer's up. It's a small island, next door to the Vineyard. Back in the day it was a whaling port, but now its mostly tourists and very very wealthy people who have homes....anyone who's anyone has a home on Hulbert St....at least that's where John Kerry and his wife spend their summers. We stayed at 7 Sea St. Inn, and were up in the swan house. A lovely girl named made up breakfast in the morning and kept the place up during the day. We went to the beach, usually once a day, and we all got fabulously tan. On the days when it was overcast we did the basket and the whaling museum. Nantucket is famous for it's lightship baskets, this beautiful things made by hand years and years ago. We toured the Hadwin House and The Oldest House, which was built in 1670 something. Not much of the house is original, and it's burned down like 5 times, but whatever I guess. The shopping is amazing, even if you are only shopping for souvenirs. Vis-A-Vis, is the store on Main St. that sells White + Warren and I met with the store owner Avis and we chatted about business for a bit. Down a ways is The Golden Basket which sells basket jewelry in any kind of metal or jewel you can imagine. For a suprisingly small island, there is a TON of shopping, an its good stuff too. All the restaurants on the island are outstanding, and my favorite was the Brant Point Grill, where we went for my birthday. It's located within the White Elephant resort, and is frequented by many of the locals celebrities which call Nantucket home, such as Jerry Stiller and Ann Meara, whom we saw that evening at dinner. All that I can say is that if you have to spend you birthday somewhere, spend it at the beach. Mom and Dad and I had a great time, and even though I am older now, I still enjoy trips with my parents -I hope this is something that we can all do again very soon.

This last weekend was fun - Paul had a short shorts party, which was a super hit and almost everyone wore the shorts. I tried to class up my short shorts, but anyway you wear em', class is the farthest thing from short shorts. Yesterday I went to Leena's wedding shower which was held at a lovely french restaurant "gavroche". It was themed for her honeymoon in the south of france so everyone had the same idea to give stuff from l'occitane. It was nice and we are uber excited for the wedding next weekend. It will be an extravaganza of love and fun and good times and I am extra excited because I the perfect dress - pictures to come next week I promise. Well blog, I will leave you with this..........."There once was a man from Nantucket..............you can figure the rest.

Love,
Kate
xoxo

Dear Blog,

So lately I have been pondering what mean to have an and what it takes to have an original thought. I work in a business where every good idea always seems to come from somewhere or something else - nothing seems to be born of any first thoughts. What's worse, is that this business runs on the motto that "time is money": this rule is 2-fold. 1) Money creates risk, and taking a chance on original idea costs money and is thus "risky", so it seems like the only ideas that ever get any face time are those that have been proven to be successful before by someone else. 2) The creative process takes time, and in a fast-paced industry like fashion, time is at a premium, so with all that we have to get done, one doesn't possible have the hours it takes to orchestrate and incubate an original thought. I wish that I was one of those people who always had something clever to say or could sit down with a sketch book and have brilliant, "outside the box" ideas everyday, but I can't and I fear that I never will, and that, for now, makes up my biggest fear in life.

Night blog,
Kate
xoxo(and I thought I was being original by writing "dear blog" - oh well)

Dear Blog,

It's Sunday morning, I have planted myself on the couch and am finishing my coffee, when I thought to myself, "better say hi to blog today, he gets lonely". Had a short week because of the 4th of July Holiday, which we spend in Charlotte NC with our Friends Aaron, Allison, Bella(puppy), and some new friends that we met along the way. We arrived early last Saturday morning - we wanted to make sure that we wasted no time and had a full day. When we arrived, the boys started with PBR's around 10:30 - you know it's going to be a good vacation when you start drinking before noon. Later we went to lunch at this British Pub place and then it was off to the mall to buy Aaron and Ian matching swim trunks because one always gets jealous of the other if one of them doesn't have something that the other has - weird. Us New Yorker's (if you can even really call us that), were amazed all the high end stores they had - Louis Vuitton and Kate Spade - Whaaaaaaaa? We came home, went to the pool and then got cleaned up for the Symphony in the park. There's nothing better than sitting outside on a summer's night, talking with friends, kinda listening to music and eating Bo-jangles chicken. Next day, we got a slow start - too much jangles the night before. Allison, who's is my new best friend, so hands off, and I went to see "The Devil Wears Prada" and the boys got "Nacho LIbre" - no way Jose. It was HOT HOT HOT that day so we went to Allison's pool to cool off and have a cook-out - it was all fun and games until the pool Nazi, Allison's RA, Nanny McPhee came and broke up the party @ 10pm - what a way to ruin a perfectly nice and wholesome good time. Next day, was Pontoon Boat day!!!!!!!!!!!! There's nothing better than spending an entire Monday on a Pontoon boat(so what if it was the slowest boat on the lake), with your friends, getting sunburn and eating the left over jangles from 2 nights before. Lake Norman is one of, if not the largest lakes in NC. We would drive for a bit and then drop anchor and swim for a while. There was one instance where we thought it would be funny to leave Ian, Paul, Peter and Kyle in the middle of the lake and then drive away - I guess we didn't realize we were gone for so long - ooops. Also on the boat with us were Kyle and Peter(brothers) and Spurgeon the IV(seriously that's his name). 8 hours later and countless cases of PBR, it was time to turn in the boat and call it a day - I have never seen a group of people so tired and beat up as I did after that boat ride. We went home and showered and then went to PF Changs for dinner - my fav! The next day it was time to go home - we were sad, tired and depressed to leave our friends and their central air conditioner, but nonetheless, life did go on in NYC. Aaron and Allison were the bestest host and hostesses and we owe them big for this very very fun weekend. Hug and kisses to everyone who made our weekend one of the best all summer! Hopefully after this trip they will still be friends with us and come to NYC again soon!

Have a good Sunday blog!
Kate
xoxo

Dear Blog,

So I get to work this morning and look out the window and there are 3 "snapple" hot air balloons sitting in bryant park - not something you see every day. I would think that hot-air ballooning is not something you would want to do in a city with a lot of tall, pointy buildings, but then again, I don't know much about hot-air balloons so who am I to say. The weekend is almost here, which means my little mini-vacation is almost here - can't wait!!! I guess portfolio work will have to be delayed, yet again, to next weekend. It's hot here in the city, and today, for once, the sun was shining which makes it all the more easier to get out of bed.

I wrote this last week and never posted but I thought I would post it anyway.
Kate
xoxo

Dear Blog,

So today is one of those days that are meant to be spent in bed watching The Cosby Show re-runs. For the last couple of days it has been rainy and grey and it's bringing me down - I'm kinda sad, and don't really feel like being out and just blah, blah blah for a week now. I am hoping that our impending vacation next weekend to Charlotte N.C. will clear things up for me.

The last couple of weekends have been good and for some weird reason, the time hasn't flown by, instead of feeling like your 2 days off is more like 2 hours off. 2 weekends ago, Paul and I had a quiet weekend. Saturday we had lunch at this snobby restaurant Mediterraneo, or something like that on the upper east side, and then went to the park for a while. It was really really steamy out, so we cooled off in the Time Warner Center and Paul got ray-ban's and a "boat shirt" for vacay - that sounds kind of gay, so I won't say "vacay" anymore -sorry blog. We then stopped at whole foods and got steaks for dinner. We rarely spend a Saturday night at home making dinner, so it was a much needed good time. The steaks were the size of my cats, so we had a hard time cutting through - only one thing to say - "meat sweats".

The next day we went to Church and it was First Communion for the kiddies, which was nice to see - brought me back. After that, we met our friend Lena for Summer Stage in Central Park. It's free and kind of cool if the right music is playing. After that it was off to Taco Taco and one of the best burrito's and coconut margarita's I have ever had in my life. Back at home, we watched "Kiss, Kiss, Bang Bang", with Val Kilmer and Robert Downy Jr.(very very big crush on RDjr.). It was good - unusual, but good.

This past weekend, my friend Lindsay was in town for a motion graphics convention for work, so she stayed through Sunday with us in Queens. She was pretty beat so we laid low for the most part. Friday we went to dinner at Local, this new Italian place down the street, and then Saturday, Shinae(other roomate), Lindsay and Paul and I met up for "The Great New Wonderful" at the Angelika. I have seen a lot of movies like this lately - very scattered, following the lives of many different people, and then at the end, everyone sort of comes together. It seems to be a trend in movies lately.

After that, we gave back to New York City - which means we went shopping and spent money. I bought a shelf at the crate and the barrel and then my lovely roommates helped me lug the 9" tall awkwardly heavy box home on the subway - what a bunch of troopers. That night we rented a movie and there was lots o' girlchat. Sunday was quiet - I put my shelf together - it was really simple and I could handle it. I cleaned a little, and then later we went to a BBQ at Kathleen's(old roommate), and it was fun - they have a pretty nice, cute little place with a nice roof. Later, Paul and I continued our love affair with Robert Downy Junior and watched "Less than Zero" - eerily parallels his real life -might give you nightmares - be careful.

So that was a marathon Blog. It's 11 so I'm watching "Sex and the City". For all of you boys who wonder - there's actually this beacon that sounds whenever the show's on and only girls can hear it.

Good night Blog,
I will try not to wait so long to write next time - I know you get lonely.
Kate
xoxo

Dear Blog,

So the last 2 weeks have been busy ones - but I guess when you live in a city like this, you are always busy - with business or something other.....So I've noticed that I only write about my weekends, but lets face it....we all live for those 2 care-free days a week. Last Friday, my friend Jen stopped by for a visit since she was in the city for an interview and then in the evening, Chip, Jen and I headed west to Hell's Kitchen a medium sized BBQ at Ian's design firm - it was nice........and for those of you that didn't catch it, that was a bad joke. The next day Paul and I met up with Rebecca at her new apt. in the lower east side and then headed to Union Pool in Williamsburg for another BBQ. After that, we trolled the neighborhood, being the cool, hipster that kids that we are not(well, I only speak for myself and for paul), got some Mexican food and the hit up some vintage stores. One store in particular was owned and run by one of Rebecca's friends, who's a designer that re-works and re-sells vintage clothing. Later that night, we were all tuckered out so we watched a few episodes of Arrested Development and called it a day. The next day, Paul came to my neck of the woods where we grocery shopped and layed out in my little courtyard in the back. We actually got some sun, and of coarse, Paul got burned as usual. Later that night we had an impromptu BBQ of our own(lots o' bbq's this weekend - I just not realized that....god I'm slow) and quite a few kids showed up. Then came Monday and the countdown started all over again. Well, we have a 1/2 day tomorrow which makes me very happy - after work I might try to go find a bathing suit - oh boy.....I am so excited.......I can't wait.......do you sense the lack of enthusiasm in my voice..........no...........maybe now........?

Good night blog,
Kate
xoxo

Dear Blog,

Well I have been quite the little traveler lately. 2 weeks ago I went back to CO for a visit and then last weekend I went to Philly to celebrate my friend Jen's 24th. Ok, well, I guess I'm not as big a traveler as I think, but it sounds so good to see it written. I got to PA by way of the Apex Bus Co, or what is better known as the China Town Bus. Only 2 fights broke out on the way there, but other than that, it was a very pleasant ride - I guess I'd be a fool to expect anything more, since I only paid $20 round-trip. I don't even see how this covers the cost of gas, but whatever..... I'm asking no questions. Once I arrived we got lunch at this really good Chinese restaurant called the Peking Duck House(there were about 5 Peking Duck House restaurants on the same street and we just picked one), and then walked through this great big farmers market. We went home and hung out for a few hours before it was time to drive back downtown to meet Michael Ian Black at this comedy place on South Street. I have to say that although he wasn't laugh-out-loud funny, he was kind of fun to listen to. The best part of the night was when he read several of his blg entries off myspace(or friendster, can't remember) - that's right - he keeps a blog - check it out. After the show we had some Mojito's at this Mexican Restaurant and then went home. We are just not the all-night partying crowd, no matter how hard we try. The next morning was Jen's birthday, and her mom made a wonderful breakfast and then I headed out to catch the bus. On this trip, I met Jen's brother Jason who surprisingly enough, has the same illness that I do - Wegeners Disease. It was nice to meet another person who's been there and back and knows what its like. When I got back that afternoon, I got re-aclimated and then Paul met me for a movie. We saw "The Break-up". The theatre was mostly couples, and I can only guess that the conversations on the way out of the theatre were the same for everyone. That's all I'm going to say... So on my ride back to NYC, I took some lovely pics of the highway. I can't remember whether it's the NJ or PA Turnpike, but it's one of those - enjoy the not so lovely photo!

Night blog,
Kate
xoxo

Dear Blog,

Well I apologize, I have been a very lazy blogger lately, and so much fun stuff has happened that I haven't even told you about. Well, last weekend I went home over Memorial day Weekend and we all had a wonderful time. Sometimes all you need is a couple days at your real home to just get yourself all straightened out. When I'm out of joint, both in mind and spirit, and need to go back to my roots, or at least back to Colorado and bring myself back down and into it. Whenever I go home I always feel the need and want to be creative, but then by the time I've rested I have to go back to work and my creative energy runs out all over again. Anyway, I had a 1/2 day last Friday and then it was off to Pittsburgh and off to Denver. Paul left to visit Brian in Chicago the same day and had one hell of a time getting out of LAG(flying sucks most of the time). Although I think that your vacation should begin with your flight instead of starting after you land. So it was supposed to be a surprise, but Mom's sneaky and pretty much knew a week before that I would be home. Next time I'll surprise the both of them.

On Saturday I worked out in the morning and then we just hung around the house, met up with some friends for lunch and then did some shopping at the mall. It's funny how we don't really have that sort of thing in NYC. Later. we got Chinese food and watched TV. Sunday I played some piano(luckliy I haven't lost it yet) and then we took the top down on my beetle and drove downtown. Went to a bookstore, did some more shopping and then headed back home. We had to make it home by 7 because that's when the Soprano's comes on, and my mom and dad now LOOOOOOOVE the Soprano's and HBO. My mom made dinner - how I love home-cooked meals and then later on, my dad I watched the Sherlock Holmes mysteries they have on the Biography channel. Monday, I took my car for one last drive and then we stayed in and watched movies. The weather was kind of gross and cold out. Tuesday I had to leave, but not til 6 so mom and I spent the afternoon together and got lunch.

It was a nice visit and I was oh so sad to have to leave. I had 2 very loved orange cats and one dog that we kind of like, so it's always hard to leave them. Ok, blog, sorry again for the delayed update. Hopefully I will get my act in gear and write to you more often.

Night blog
Kate
xoxo

Dear Blog,

So I spent today home from work - sick as a dog. Any signs of stress and my body freaks out on me and rejects itself. I was looking forward to really enjoying this weekend but now I fear I will be bed-bound or at least couch-bound. It's kind of hard to rest during the day because there's this elementary school next to me and all day long it's yelling...."stop hitting me"......."I'm telling....."hahahahahahah"......."red rover, red rover"......"he called me fat"...I could go on an on. Anyways, the long and the short of it is that it's hard to rest with that going on not even five feet from your bedroom window. Alls I have to say is that at least tomorrow's Friday. Oh, so I watched the series finale of "Will and Grace" and it blew really hard. First they make it out to be like a 2 hour finale, but what they really mean is that it's one hour of behind the scenes bloopers or whatever and then what seems like 20 mins of the actual show - I left out 40 mins for commercials and so forth. They did this thing where they age all of their characters and look into the future to when they're all old and whatever else. Anyway, I'm a little disappointed. My favorite character by far was Karen. I hope that when I die that I can come back as someone like her - but maybe a little nicer, maybe not....Ok, well Tylenol cold is kicking in and I'm getting double vision so I better go. Blog, if this ever happens to you, remember this: drink lots of tea, keep on the Mucinex and a hot shower will always make you feel at least 30% better.

Night Blog,
Kate
xoxo

Dear Blog,

Well today was quiet, but I got a lot of stuff done around the house which was good, because lately I have been pretty neglectful of my habitat. This will be a short blog, because it's late and I need my sleep to get ready for a busy busy week, but this afternoon as I was dropping off my laundry I noticed quite a commotion at the Catholic Church next door. It was 1st Communion for all the little kiddies - lots of little girls in white dresses and little boys in white suits posing with their families and their candles for pictures. It took me back to my First Communion and I got a little sentimental, but only for a little bit. Anyway Blog, wish me luck this week - I am going to need it.

Night!
Kate
xoxo

Dear Blog,

Well, what a week it has been - we laughed, we cried and then we cried some more. We lost a very good designer at my place this week and she will very sorely be missed by all, but she's on to bigger and better things so our hats off to her. Last night after work, I went home so so happy for the weekend to be here. Not much happened other than a little TV and time spent with my roommate. It's funny because Friday doesn't seem like the night to go out here in NYC - it's more of a night to just relax and take a deep breath after the work week. Today Paul's mission was dport7 tee shirts so we have been screening all afternoon and they look really super great. Read more about this and see pics go to dport7. Anyway, it's just a fun kind of lazy day in Brookly and even though the retard Sam Champion said rain all weekend there's not a cloud in the sky. Well, blog, we have the grey tee's left to do so I will leave you for now.

Bye blog,
Kate
xoxo

Dear Blog,

It has been so long and so much has gone down - well, not really, but there is alot of stuff to write about. Last weekend was the 4th weekend in a row that someone has been in town. Now don't get me wrong, I love the company, I just get all perfectionisty about being the perfect hostess and all. Friday was quiet. I met Paul for a drink at this bar cafe place on my street and then Shinae, him and I ordered Chinese food and watched TV. It gets better..........On Saturday, my friend Lena was kind enough to invite me to a British fashion exhibit "Anglomania" at the Met. It was pretty cool - lots of current designers, Alexander McQueen, Christopher Bailey for Burberry and Vivenne Westwood, mixed with period costume and set in this "Wuthering Heights" type of manor house - they even made it rain, and you could see it and hear it running down the windows. After that, it was up to the rooftop for a drink and a sit down and then off to the park to soak up the last of the afternoon sun. Later on, we got dinner at this Brasserie, and since it was the Kentucky Derby, everyone was watching the race and sipping mint julips. I met up with my friends Lindsay and Shinae for dessert and then we went to this small party back in my Queens neighborhood.

Sunday was brunch at the Grande Cafe and then "Art School Confidential" at the Angelika. It was a funny movie and Paul and I felt some loyalty, or maybe sympathy(not sure) for art school and those "creative types" who attend. We went to dinner at this little restaurant "Cafe Cubana" and a strange thing happened. The place is really small so all the tables are pretty tight. Anyway, we were sitting next to, or more like on top of this man and woman - the guy was definitely gay, and she looked straight enough, but 1st it sounded like they were fighting like a couple would fight. Then it sounded like they were roleplaying an argument which totally threw those around them who were eves-dropping, way off. Then they got into an argument about child custody or something and then he got all confused about how many hours were in a day or something. It was so random and so so strange. After they left, Paul and I turned to these 2 girls sitting on the otherside of the strange couple and all 4 of us were like, "what the hell was that all about" - kind of fun when you bond with 2 total strangers over crazy people in a restaurant.

Ok, Blog. I have got to stop waiting too long bewteen entries. I was on a very crowded "V" train going into Manhattan and everyone around me look so depressed. Usually on any other given day, I would have been one of those sad faces, however this morning I woke up unusually optimistic. I noticed through the crowd that there was one guy smiling, almost laughing to himself. My eyes went right to him. Maybe when you're kind of happy, you zero in on the other happiness. This was not a life altering revelation or anything, just something different this morning -and different can be very good.

Have a good one blog!
Kate
xoxo

Dear Blog,

Yesterday was a lovely Sat. I hung out here at my house, which I guess I don't really do all that often. I took a run on the mill and then soaked up the sun on our back porch. Then I went into the city and met up with Jen(whose interview with the NY Public School system went well) and Amy and we checked out this new exhibition by Kara Walker, and the show was prefaced by a short blurb about how it was directly related to the Hurricane Katrina devastation, but half way through, I noticed that the project had very little to do with the hurricane, and mostly about African-American Stereo-types. Amy is going to grad school for the art history thing so she had lots to say about it. After that we went to this little bakery on Madison Ave.(very shi-shi, and somewhere I don't usually hang out, but it was nice). Later on we met up with Paul for dinner at this Latin kitchen called Lucy - the Sangria was too good and I had too much - I'm a sucker for that stuff.

The next day was quiet. We cleaned up the back porch for the BBQ and ran to the store to get some extra stuff. We didn't care to worry about whether our grill would work or not, so when we go to fire her up, after everyone got there, it didn't work - I guess we had never shut the gas off after the last BBQ so the tank was empty. Sandra blamed it on Ian, which might be one of the reasons he doesn't come over much? Anyway, it was fun and good people showed up and we need to do it way more often. So into another week I am - trying to keep my spirits up so I don't bring the whole world down with me. Time to finish the resume and send, send, send, send.

Goodnight Blog,
Kate
xoxo

Dear Blog,

You know what really blows on the weekend? - that time around 7:30 am when you bounce out of bed, and can't fall back to sleep, because your body has been programed like a robot to wake up at an unreasonable hour Mon-Fri. I just throw on the food channel and hope that Paula Dean can sing me to sleep with her "hey Y'alllllllllllllls"( as Paul says it). Last week was a busy one, and glad its passed. Last night we went to a BBQ at our friends Ian's office - he works at a design firm called "Nice" - if only we could all be so lucky to work somewhere called nice. They have an amazing interior space and then an awesome rooftop where they grill - they really do go all out for these BBQ's - there's really something to be said about a working environment as pleasant as this one. The food was great and then around 9 or so my friends Jen and Amy stopped by and we had a summer of 04' reunion. Today, we are planning on meeting up at the MET around 3:30 and then who knows - the 3 of us can get pretty crazy - of coarse any of you that know us, know that this isn't true, but we do what we can.

Have a good Saturday Blog, and stay out of trouble
(don't really know what I mean by that)
xoxo
kate

Dear Blog,

Shine up your dancing shoes Blog and freshen up on your Spanish and Protuguese cause my friend Jen's a coming to town - she's spent the last 8 or so months in Brazil and jet-setting amongst the southern most parts of the globe - she was actually doing many great things - among them, teaching. I am so envious of her, and also our friend Emily who is also hopping from country to country as well, seeing the world and enjoying her 20's - sooooo envious, although I am grateful and lucky to have a job......... blah, blah, blah. She's coming here to interview with the NY Public School System, very very brave girl, and it staying with us here in Queens for a night - very excited, haven't seen her over a year and a half. Anyways....today went well. We are having a marathon week of very long meetings to figure out the spring 2007 line, and it's quite a task. Well blog, I am tired and need to re-energize for a long day tomorrow. Can't think of anything else to say, other than that we went to a trend presentation/seminar thing today at the Direction Show near Penn Station. As you know, I have had a rough "what does it all mean" kind of week, and, fingers crossed, this next one will come and go more smoothly. Thanks to all of those who left a comment - it's true that we all have to go through this and I guess this is just my turn on the horse - the crazy retarded horse with one eye who spooks easily. This was a happy weekend for me. Paul's brother was in town, so on Saturday, the boys hit up a Yankee's game, unfortunately the weather has been a hater the last few days, so the cold made it less than enjoyable, but whatever, you're at a baseball game. I hung out with the roomates and did some grocery shopping, because we had planned to BBQ today, but it's postoned til next weekend so everyone mark your calenders accordingly. Later that Sat. evening, all 8 or so of us went to dinner at this cool diner/bar place called "Cup", down the street from my house. This place serves breakfast all day long, and it's got a bar right in the middle of it all - nothing better, I tell you what. After that we watched"King Kong" and I think it could have been about 2 hours shorter and still would have been alright, but you know, I probably should have gone to see it on the big screen anyways. Today we did some shopping, John made out like a bandit on jeans and stuff, and then I came back home and enjoyed the last few hours of my Sunday - so depressing right?!? Ok, blog, well chin up, and things will get better, or things will get different, one of the two.

Night blog
xoxo

Dear Blog,

Well it has been almost 2 whole days, and I'm sure you have been going crazy since I've been gone. Actually blog, I have been spending my days with people - no offense, but sometimes I need someone who can talk back to me. So where to start....Well, on Friday, my day off, one of my few days offs, ever, we got an early start and walked over the the American Folk Art Museum- it was really interesting, and definitely a better time than I thought - folkart - don't knock it til you've tried it. After that, we went to Burger Heaven down the street for lunch (it's kind of a new york tradition I guess). We ended our afternoon at Bloomingdales and then walked down 5th Ave. on the way back to the hotel. We rested and had a little nap, and then it was off to dinner at Patsy's - a famous, and very delicious Italian restaurant in the theatre district. I am a little skeptical of any restaurants near, in or around times Square, but this place is and always will be great.

On Saturday morning we did the MET, and saw what we could in about 2 hours. I need to go more often so I don't forget my entire art history education. After that, we went to Serendipity III for lunch and got their famous "frozen hot chocolate" - a little tip - if you feel like being obese for an afternoon, go there and stuff yourself stupid. We went to the Frick Collection after lunch and saw "Goya's Last Works"(or the "crazy period" when he was starting to lose it). The exhibition was good and the permanent collection rivals the MET's. This is definitely a good alternative to the MET and it's set in somebody's home(well, a really uber fabulous one, but still). It was so nice, sunny and beautiful that we spent the rest of the day outside wandering through central park. We walked past "The Dakota" where John Lennon was shot and then walked down to the Time Warner Building. We were so stuffed from lunch that we had greek salads at this place down the street from their hotel, and then it was back to Queens for me.

Easter Sunday, we waited in line for the 12 pm mass at St. Patrick's cathedral, since the 10:15 mass was sold out - it doesn't sound very good when you say "sold out", but anyway, that's what they said. After that we went to the "Top of the Rock" at Rockefellar Center about 77 stories up. I have to say that it was better than the Empire State Building - fewer people and more room to walk around. Later, we went to see "The Odd Couple" with Nathan Lane and Mathew Broderick. It was uber funny, however I can't figure out whether Nathan Lane just gets the better parts or whether he's just funnier than mathew - hmmm? Paul met up for dinner later and then I said goodbye to Mom and Dad until August. It was sad seeing them go. Most of you that read this know that I am an only child, so they are kind of all I have - besides my friends here in the city of course.

This was a busy weekend, but it was a nice change. The people that live here in this city, don't take enough advantage of all that New York has to offer, and it's important to remind ourselves of all we have. Ok, well I have gone on long enough - it's starting to sound like a review out of AAA.

Goodnight Blog, have a good week!

Dear Blog,

It was one of those ho-hum kind of days, not really fantastic, not really horrible. I met Mom and Dad this afternoon for lunch after their trip to Ellis Island. My mom went on and on about how interesting it was and how moved she was by the immigrants plight. I guess if you go, you need to take the audio tour. Interesting fact - Did you know that if you were a single woman that came to this country unaccompanied with family or friends, you could not leave Ellis Island unless you were claimed or escorted off the premises by a man. Another interesting tid bit - Each country had an "immigration quota' per country so if you arrived to NYC, after your country's quota was filled, they shipped you back. They also shipped you back if you were crazy, or apparently a single female. Well, anyway, enough about Ellis Island - I will definitely have to go one of these days. For dinner, we went to my favorite Mexican restaurant in the city called "Rosa Mexicano". It has the best food, service, and this glass wall with a waterfall and little divers - hard to explain, so you really need to see for yourself. I'm especially tired tonight - too much sangria. Tomorrow it's off to some museums, maybe a little shopping. Well blog, I might not be able to chat tomorrow, but don't be sad. If you need something to read, go to dport7.com or phrogger.com/swirlogirl/ - there's good stuff there.

Night!
xoxo

Dear Blog,

So it has turned cold out again and I just don't understand it. As soon as it starts to get warm and beautiful, winter rears it's ugly head. My parents got here today and we just got back from dinner at this organic restaurant called Josie's on 38th and 3rd. I was a little skeptical at first - you know, too much green food scares me. But it is actually very good, and has a nice energy. I gotta say that I love four day weeks - tomorrow's already Friday for me and I am uber excited about it. 3-day weekends are the closest thing I can get to a vacation these days. On the subway there are these posters, I think advertising Bermuda or the Bahamas or somewhere "islandy". Each picture is different and says things like "take the road less shoveled", "trade 18 layers for 18 holes", and then my favorite, "just say no to pants". It makes me want to move to California or somewhere "eternally summer".

Night Blog!

Dear Blog,

It is lunchtime here in NYC. Our design office looks out over Bryant Park(big perk of the job), and the place is packed to the brim with people. It is a beautiful, sunny clear afternoon, and for the first time today, I noticed that the tulips and the hyacinth are starting to bloom, which helps the city to smell clean and new again. They still have the lawn roped off, but(fingers crossed), they will open it by next week. My parents are coming for a visit tomorrow and will be staying through next Monday - I can't wait. They like to do all the tourist stuff, and we all love to shop so I am sure there will be a little of that going on. On Easter Sunday, we have brunch in the morning and then we are going to see "The Odd Couple" in the afternoon - with Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane. I saw "The Producers" in theatres over Christmas, and I couldn't help but question Mathew Broderick's sexuality, but then again, maybe that's the thing about a really good actor - they always keep you guessing. Lunchtime's almost up for me, so gotta run, but maybe later Blog, if you are very good, I will leave another little note for you.

Chow Blog!

Dear Blog,

Ok, time to send those angry letters - boy, is ABC, is on my shit list. This is what I don't understand - what's the point of a season, premier through finale, if you are just going to fill it up here and there with re-runs, I mean, why not just end the season early and save us all a lot of trouble. Grey's anatomy needs better get it right with Jesus, and that means new shows, full of bombs inside patients, hearts catching on fire, male pregnancy, etc., etc. until summer. Ok, rant over. I know I vowed when I started this blog that it would be devoid of all negativity, blah, blah, blah. Monday was you know, how every Monday is and how every Monday will be for the rest of your life until you retire. Next Monday, if you want to make somebody smile, send an e-card. I know it sounds lame, but hallmark has the best "anytime" cards, especially this series called "hoops and yo-yo" - good stuff. Today was a nice day. I was out of the office and sketching - it helped clear my head and get back into the design swing of things. Well a little bit of Jay Leno and it's off to bed.

Goodnight Blog!

Dear Blog,

Today was Palm Sunday so Paul and I were good this morning and went to mass. For some reason, Palm Sunday and Easter always sneaks up on me. After church, we headed over to Prospect Park where we met up with Ian and tried to soak up some sun, although it's still a touch too chilly. There are too many of us trying to rush the season, and the spring/summer is being very, very stubborn. I think it was my fault because last week I bought "my summer sandals", and then yesterday, what happens - freezing rain - I jinxed all of us - at least all of us here in NYC - sorry. I am hanging out with my boys this evening - they begged me to stay for taco night, and I gave in, as always. I do love my Mexican food. So I don't think I'm alone when I say that "Grey's Anatomy" is on tonight and I am very excited about it - last week they fooled us all and it was a re-run and if it happens again tonight, ABC's getting an angry letter from me. Goodnight, sleep tight Blog!

April 8th, Part Deuce

Dear Blog,

Blog, you sure are lucky - 2 posts in one day - too much. So I finally got myself out of the house today after a run on the mill, a couple of errands and some minor house cleaning. Paul and I headed down to Union Square and Paul got a fabulous do' by one of the fine ladies at Super Cuts. After that, it was off to lunch at Cedar and then down to SoHo for some shopping. We stopped in this store called "Kid Robot", and it's a hard store to explain. There was a lot of Asian cartoon character figures and animation stuff, but kind of cool. I mean, I wouldn't spend $100 on a scale model of Jack Skellington from "The Nightmare Before Christmas", but hell, it's one crazy world so I'm sure somebody out there would. We also stopped at Super Target and Old Navy on our way home - $3.50 for a pair of flip-flops - doesn't get much better than that. Well blog, before I go I wanted to give a shout out to my friends that commented on my last entry. I do appreciate the support and feel quite welcome in "blogville"(thanks Jen). As for Allison, I look forward to reading you and your mates blog and as for Uncle Urb, I think it's time the urban cowboy got back up on that horse. Lastly, Jon Schulman rules my world - I'm glad you can die happy now Jon. Goodnight Blog

Dear Blog,

So the weekend is finally here! Sorry no post yesterday, we got back from "Friends With Money" kind of late and I didn't want to write you unless I could put my whole heart and soul into it. I love the movies and lately there has been a ton of stuff out that I have wanted to see, but last night was a tad dissapointing. I don't want to spoil it for any of you who want to go, but it was a little, "like whatever"(one of Emily's favorite phrases - she was my old roomate from college - most of you know her). Everyone had money in the movie except Jenn Aniston - she was a maid who smoked pot by herself at night and prank phone-called this married guy she's still in love with - wierd - right? Anyway, beyond that, it was a little hard to believe that she was the one with no money, since in real life she likely has more money than all of her co-stars put together. One funny thing about her character though - on the weekends she would check to find out which cosmetic line, Chanel, Lancome, etc. were giving away free samples of lotion, face stuff, etc.,and then she goes around to all the department stores and collects all she can get, like 10 or 15 at a time - I don't know why that made an impression on me, but it did for some reason. Before the movie it was super nice outside so we found this restaurant that had outdoor balcony seating and made a run for it. I think it was called "Pescadoro" or something like that. Anyway, Paul wants to get his hair cut today, so I told him I would go with him and hold his hand - you know, for moral support.

Good day blog!

Dear Blog,

So I got to spend a little time today with what I call the "afternoon crowd" - a mix of women and men(who may and may not work), tourists, the eldery, and kids just getting out of school. It's funny to see how different the city looks at 3pm and 7pm, when I usually get out of work. Today I went Bloomingdales and Barney's to do some trim retail for our spring 2007 season. Straight out - there's a lot of good stuff our there right now and since we are right on the cusp of spring, all you want to do is buy open-toe shoes and tank tops and lightweight cotton, floaty, dresses. It is easier for me to feel feminine in the spring time - in the winter I feel constantly on-guard, and somewhat aggressive in how I dress. Anyways, it was a lovely afternoon and it helped to get the last little bit of creative juices that I have left from school flowing away.

Well, blog our burritos(and one quesadilla for me) is here, I got's to go.
Night!

Dear Blog,

So today I saw the first sign of spring on my street today - these trees were blooming into these beautiful, delicate little white flowers. It helped remind me that spring is really here, even though the blizzard this mid-morning really threw us all. Have you ever asked the question, "What makes my boss feel important?"?. My crazy Aunt Barb asked me that question on the phone this evening and it really made me think - and I;m still thinking about it actually. Tomorrow's Thursday already - time goes especially fast here in NYC, and to be honest, I think think everyone in this city could benefit from a slower pace kind of life - now, I said slower, not slow - slow's different. Tonight I made myself an unusually good dinner of cremini mushrooms, asparagus, wild rice and strawberries(I have been overly fond of strawberries and it will have to give sooner or later). Anyway's this was a big deal because I never, and I mean never cook. I can go ahead and say that I will try to cook more often, but blog, lets face it - won't happen.

Goodnight Blog

Dear Blog,

I told myself that this blog would be for positive and thought-provoking moments in my life, so I instead of talking about my day at work, I will tell you about the book I am reading Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. It starts out with a young movie star on the beach, and then moves through the beautiful hotel on the shore and the meeting of the European bourgeousis and the "nouveau riche" (after all, it is the "riche" that counts - that line is from a movie so I cann't really claim as my own) expatriate Americans who spend their lives floating through their days - afternoon picnics at the beach, elaborate dinner parties sipping sherry. I am only on page 30 something, but I already appreciate how the imagery allows to me to escape. We all need to escape - at least once or twice a day. Sometimes it helps if I have a little mood music to go along with the story - this morning some Miles Davis made a very good soundtrack.

Well blog, more tomorrow if you're lucky,
Kate

Dear blog,

So everyone's got these blog things and I criticize because I do think it's kinda dumb, but if I want to be the open-minded person I think I am, I probably shouldn't knock it until I've tried it. Anyways, this is day #1. I am at work on my lunch break. It has gotten cold out, which is depressing because yesterday was soooooooooo nice and spring-like - we went to central park and was lazy with the rest of NYC.Plans for tonight: run on the treadmill groceries delivered, Katie coming over, Chinese food from Sunrise, "Sex and the City" @ 11 - just in case anyone cares.
